History 

Company History

  • Founded by Prentice Bloedel.

  • Incorporated under the laws of the state of Washington on November 13th, 1945.

  • Initial land purchase of approximately 17,000 acres.

  • Corporate purposes include acquiring and improving real estate, reforesting, and raising and cultivating trees.

  • 1952-1954:

    • Large-scale hand planting of Douglas fir seedlings in Clallam County.​​​​​​

  • Reforestation in Washington:

    • Original logged-over areas were reforested using seed from seed areas and clumps of standing trees left for reseeding.

    • Helicopters are used to disseminate seed in areas with insufficient seed trees.

    • From 1952 to 1954, the first large-scale hand planting of Douglas fir seedlings in Clallam County in areas devastated by the Forks Fire of 1951 and the Bear Creek Fire of 1952.

    • Hand planting became the usual method of reforestation.

  • 1974:​

    • Established Bloedel Forest in 1974 with the purchase of the 4,000-acre Fostoria Block.

    • Peak land holdings in Alabama reached 31,500 acres. 

  • Land Holdings:

    • Presently own approximately 23,000 acres in Washington State (Skagit, Whatcom, and Clallam counties).

    • 80 years of managing planting, spraying, and adherence to DNR laws and rules.
